Mays Speaks: Sexual Harassment in the Workplace

March 21, 2018

I attended the Mays Speaks event on Sexual Harassment presented by some of the HR employees of BP on March 21, 2018. A major take away for me was that harassment isn’t about intention of the actor, but how people perceive it. The speakers also emphasized the importance of having a corporate culture that supports individuals being able to bring their whole selves to work. They encouraged us to bring questions about culture when we go to interviews and ask for examples. Company culture is a really important consideration in where I work, so I thought this was excellent advice to help students see identify good work environments.

The Dean and a few other executive professors discussed how Mays Business School is a business, albeit an unconventional one. With a broad customer base ranging from students to legislators, Mays is in the business of transforming lives.  The vision of Mays Business School is to be a vibrant learning organization that develops transformational leaders and creates impactful knowledge to advance the world's prosperity. In addition, the panel addressed how they each stay current and why it's important to do so. They informed us of some of the resources that Texas A&M provides through the libraries for students, and encouraged us to take advantage of them.

AAF Houston Student Advertising Competition

October 21, 2016

I participated in the American Advertising Federation's Houston Student Competition on Friday, October 21. I competed on a team of seven advertising and graphic design students from across Texas to make a advertising campaign for AlertHouston (the emergency notification system for the City of Houston). We were briefed by the City of Houston's Office of Emergency Management and the councilwoman for District A. We then met our group members and worked at an advertising studio in Houston (Zephyr Salvo) from 10am to 6:30pm to develop a full ad campaign and pitch. While our team didn't win, we received a lot of positive feedback from the judges. I really enjoyed the experience and learned a lot about working on teams in a high pressure environment.

Wisdom Workshop

March 08, 2017

I went to Matthew Korioth's Wisdom Workshop for case interviews yesterday. We talked about the structure of case interviews and some frameworks we can use to do well in them. I enjoyed working with other Business Honors students to work through the process of solving case problems.
